CULLING

Recognizing the significance of choosing the best photos without overwhelming clients with options, let me handle the culling process for you. This way, you can reclaim more of your valuable time!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

1. CREATE YOUR CATALOG

After completing your shoot, follow these steps to prepare your Lightroom Catalog for editing:

1. Create a NEW Lightroom Catalog and generate Smart Previews for your images. You can do this during import or by selecting the files and navigating to Library > Previews > Build Smart Previews in Library mode (not develop mode). Building Smart Previews is crucial as it allows me to edit your Catalog without needing the RAW files.

2. If you're handling the culling process yourself, please complete it before sending me your Catalog.

3. No need to export your catalog. Simply close Lightroom and compress the Lightroom folder into a ZIP folder. Exporting is not required!

For a detailed walkthrough of the process, check out this helpful video that guides you from start to finish!

2. EDIT YOUR SAMPLE IMAGES

Utilising this approach allows me to understand your desired editing style for each section of a shoot or wedding, ensuring a seamless and consistent outcome.

For sample images, I advise rating them with 5 stars. These rated images serve as a blueprint for editing the rest of the job. Aim for a minimum of 15-20 images from different sections of the Catalog for weddings. 10-15 images for a family, portrait or newborn shoot.

3. CREATE YOUR CATALOG

When you're ready to send me the Catalog, simply compress the LR catalog folder into a ZIP folder. This folder should contain 5 files: helper.lrdata, previews.lrdata, smart previews.lrdata, .lrcat, and .lrcat-data (prefixed with the name of your catalog). I only require the smart previews for editing, so please exclude any RAW files.

After compressing the folder, upload the ZIP file to Google Drive. You'll be granted access to a dedicated folder for all your future jobs, eliminating the need for personal storage.

At this stage your invoice and questionnaire will need to be completed. Editing will commence only after the invoice has been paid in full.

4. DOWNLOAD AND EXPORT

Once the editing is complete, you'll receive an email containing a link to download your catalog. During this stage, simply reconnect your RAW files and review the edits. I recommend updating AI settings, which you can do by selecting all images, right-clicking, and navigating to develop settings. Then, hit export on the photos.

While smart previews are helpful, they're not intended for exporting. Ensure that your photos all display as "original photo" and not "smart preview" before exporting. This should update automatically when you reconnect your RAW files.

TRIAL EDIT

Before making a commitment, consider a trial edit to ensure we're on the same page! I'm happy to offer a free trial edit of up to 5 images, depending on availability. Simply create a sample Catalog with your chosen 5 images and a few edited samples.

If you're ready to book without a trial edit, providing additional samples edits and sharing some online galleries would be helpful, offering more reference images for me to work with!

QUESTIONNAIRE

When you send over a new job, I'll shoot you a questionnaire. Just fill it out with as much detail as you can! Let me know how you want certain images edited, what you'd like to keep or toss, and how much black and white you're into. Do you prefer centered crops or more off-center vibes? Are you cool with a bit of grain or prefer a clean look? Tell me how many pics you're aiming for, whether it's a strict 600 or somewhere between 550 and 700. The more you share, the better I can nail your style!

DUE DATE

I have a turnaround time of 21 business days which starts from the time I receive your catalog and full payment. You may request a rush on your images however this is subject to additional costs. And hey, if there are any hiccups on your end, just shoot me a message! If you're running 7 days or more behind schedule with sending the files, it might affect the turnaround time, and there'll be a late fee of $50. Communication is vital to ensure you're happy with the outcome, I'm open to feedback so we can perfect future your edits together.
